Where/When Are Lessons?

Lessons are once a week during your child’s orchestra class or after-school. Student's specific lesson time and location are listed on your My Music Staff account. Do not worry if your child doesn’t know where to go for their lesson the first couple of weeks. I can find them in orchestra class and show them where to go. I can also come get them if they ever forget to go to their lesson throughout the school year. If your lesson is after school please meet me in the Orchestra Room for the first lesson if you do not know where to go yet.

(*If quarantined, please contact me with as much advance notice as possible and the name of your student for a Skype or FaceTime lesson during your regular lesson time. If it's short notice, please text instead, as I am often away from email while I am teaching lessons.*)

What We Work On

I aim to give a very comprehensive learning experience that is tailored to fit your student’s individual playing level and needs. I will have you purchase lesson music (solo book and etude book) that we will work on together. If you have been in lessons before with another teacher, please bring your music from your last month of lessons (often the method books I use are very similar to those of other private lesson teachers).

I am also happy to help with any orchestra music with which your student needs help (especially playing tests, auditions, etc.).

Lesson Tuition - How It Works

Lesson tuition is based on a 10-month period, August-May and divided into nine equal monthly payment installments. School breaks are already factored into this total. Since lesson tuition for the school year is divided into nine monthly installments payment amount will remain the same each month regardless of how many lessons are in each month.

First installment due August 15

Second installment due September 15

Third installment due October 15

Fourth installment due November 15

Fifth installment due December 15

Six installment due January 15

Seventh installment due February 15

Eight installment due March 15

Ninth installment due April 15

*No tenth installment in May this year – May 20th is last day for in-school lessons*

Lesson Calendar

Enrollment in Mrs. Powell’s studio comes with a yearly tuition (divided equally into nine monthly payment installments), which secures your child’s exclusive weekly lesson time throughout the school year. Private Lessons are offered once a week throughout the school year unless otherwise noted. Mrs. Powell’s schedule mirrors the Avon Community Schools schedule. If school moves to eLearning, Mrs. Powell will continue lessons virtually. (*If quarantined, please give advance notice for a virtual lesson*)

Student's specific lesson times and location are listed on your account in My Music Staff. Below is a general lesson calendar for the Studio.

Practice Expectations

Practicing is a requirement for this violin/viola studio. The following are the minimum practice expectations:

  • All students should practice a minimum of 20 minutes per day/5 times per week.
  • Forty-Five-minute lesson students should practice a minimum of 30 minutes per day/5 times per week.
  • Full hour students should practice a minimum of 45 minutes per day/5 times per week.
  • Please note: these are minimum requirements; advanced players often require more practice based on their ability and personal goals they set for themselves.

It is the teacher’s responsibility to teach students how to practice effectively and efficiently. It is the student’s responsibility to practice outside of their lesson time. Parents are responsible for overseeing and ensuring practice at home.
